Baptism

"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth." 3 John 1:4

We had a wonderful Easter. We started the morning at 5:30 by waking all the kids and throwing them into shorts and flip flops to head out to the beach for the Sunrise baptism. This year it was really very special to us as our own little girl was being baptized. Ruthie accepted Christ about 2 years ago but was really unsure about being baptized. So, we waited. We wanted her to have the time to question it, to understand it and to WANT it. She has over the last 6 months or so been asking a lot about baptism; the symbolism, the importance, and the obedience of the action. And finally, she told us she wanted to be baptized.

Our Pastor believes that the person who is most involved in the process of bringing someone to Christ should baptize that person if they are willing and able. So, on Easter, at sunrise, surrounded by family, friends and other new believers, my husband baptized my daughter in the Gulf of Mexico. And now, her journey begins anew as a disciple of Christ as she has taken the first step in obedience and now will walk with Him in truth. Praise God!

What a beautiful experience for you all! I was able to baptize Aidan as well (highly unusual in our church-but oh so meaningful to me!) and I still get choked up about it. Ruthie, I pray your journey is filled with wondrous joy. God bless!

The Lord truly blessed us all, when He brought that beautiful little girl into our midst. Now, she has taken His hand so that He can guide her along in His steps. I know there were many angels there, at that spot....I especially sensed the presence of a great-grandma, with a beautiful smile, who loved that beach scene, and would have been so proud of her Grandson as well as her great granddaughter, as their steps lead them on a journey to reunite with her some day.

That's wonderful Lori! Yea Ruthie! I think it is great that she really thought through things until she was ready to take that step in her walk with the Lord. What an awesome Easter!

That is so great Ruthie. Alyssa too wasn't quite ready to be baptized when she accepted Christ back in 1st grade so Paster Gene talked to her about it and she told him she was going to wait until she is 16. Well, she is 13 and it still hasn't happened yet. The 1st year we went to Northside's Easter Sunrise service Alyssa told us that she wanted to get baptized at that service in the Gulf when she was ready. And then when we got to the beach it was so cold and windy and everyone was bundled up, she changed her mind. I think the biggest stumbling block for her is getting up there in the church in front of all those people so we have talked to her a lot about obedience and the show of faith and she seems to be talking about it more now that ever but still hasn't told us that she is ready. That is so great that Adam baptized her. I wish we could have been there!

How exciting, what a special day!

Lori, did you ever find out how to print an entire blog? I thought I remembered you talking about that after your adoption was complete, that it could maybe be printed as a book?

Thanks, Kara
